Iapetos is the source for a collection of bible related software projects.
Starting in 1998 we began building a set of articles and supporting software dealing with a set of Bible related projects. Some of those projects are sets of articles for display on the web, others are stand alone software projects.
In 2008, after roughly 10 years at this, we decided that all of these projects needed to be distributed in an open source fashion, using open source licenses so that it would be theoretically possible for others to both distribute and potentially extend the work that we have been doing.
To that end we set up this website as the place were we could provide a distribution point for what will eventually become a large collection of various packages.
We've created another website to deal extensively with the Biblical mandate for providing all materials in a form that can be reproduced and passed on to future generations.
The mechanics of carrying out that mandate across our various projects needed to be handled in one convenient place, and so we created this Iapetos website as our point of distribution.
The decision to open source everything has come at the same time as a decision to adopt Python as the standard programming language for all of our work. As each of our major tools are converted to Python, they will be posted on this website.
